Local Arts Spotlight: the Glendale Room
While the global pandemic seemed to close many beloved Los Angeles spots, in October of 2021, Glendale gained a dark, cozy little spot on Artsakh Ave, between Broadway and Wilson Ave, two blocks from Glendale Central Public Library. With a bright pink neon sign and the walls lined with books, the Glendale Room has been offering superb comedy shows which includes stand-up, improv, sketch along with storytelling shows and classes for the curious. The Glendale Room is led by Sean Casey, a Chicago-native who, along with some friends, opened up the Westside Comedy Theater in Santa Monica in 2008.
Brand 50 Works on Paper: Call for Entries!
The Associates of Brand Library & Art Center announces its 50th Annual National Juried Exhibition of Works on Paper celebrating not only the artists chosen this year, but the many who have been featured in the past 50 years. Cash awards total over $4,000 including a Juror’s Award. All accepted artworks will be included in a show at the Brand Gallery and in both printed and online exhibition catalogs.
Storefront Art Program is looking for Artists!
After a successful launch of a pilot Storefront Art Program, Art on Orange, Glendale’s Arts and Culture Commission is continuing to sponsor installations for 2022. This year, the program is expanding further into Glendale by partnering with property owners to help integrate art in public spaces and enliven everyday experiences. This Storefront Art Program will enable Glendale to become an arts and culture destination and bring the community together through art.
Brand Associates Dance Series 2022
This series, curated by acclaimed choreographer, teacher and producer Jamie Nichols, presents top dance companies from Southern California performing site-specific work in non-traditional performance spaces around Brand Library. This year performances will be live and in person. The Dance Series includes an interactive Sunday workshop with an opportunity to meet the artists.

Local Arts Spotlight: Junior High
Junior High is a non-profit 501(c)3 community arts space prioritizing the safety and expression of female, queer, nonbinary, and artists of color. Their physical space, publication, podcast, and other ventures function on principles of radical empathy, equity, and mutual aid.
Memories of Glendale in the 1920s and 1930s
Paul Ignatius, 101-year-old Glendale native, will share his memories about Glendale in the 1920s and 1930s through photos from his own collection as well as those from the Library’s History Room.
