Holiday Festivities for Children and Families

Holidays Around the World .png

The holiday season is once again upon us, and Glendale Library Arts & Culture is here to provide resources, programming, and reading challenges for children and their families.

On Saturday, December 12 at 2:00pm, you can join Children’s Librarian Ms. Vivian for a Storytime and & Ornament Making Virtual Live Program. Bring out the hot cocoa, put on your favorite ugly sweater, and follow along at home! (Please note that all our ornament kits have now been distributed and we no longer have any available for pick-up). Suggested ornament making materials: Clear fillable plastic ornament ball, stickers, bells, pom-poms, glittery pipe cleaners, or any other fun decorating supplies you can dream up.

We hope you’ll also join us for our Live Storytimes, on December 3, 10, and 17, Thursdays at 10am.

Whether your children enjoyed the Library’s online reading challenge this summer and want more, or are just looking for fun things to do over winter break, you can sign up for our online Winter Reading Challenge. Starting December 15, 2020 through January 15, 2021, you can learn about holiday traditions around the world as part of the online Beanstack reading challenge. Find recommended books and activities here, to both educate and celebrate, and earn an assortment of virtual activity badges.

The Library will also be giving out a Kwanzaa cootie catcher craft with instructions during normal curbside hours on December 16-19, and again on December 21-23, while supplies last. All children’s materials set aside for patron pick-up will receive the craft during available weeks, and the Montrose branch allows for patron walk-ups to get the craft package. It will also be available on our website.

The GLAC Children’s Librarians have also created winter book lists, covering seasonal reads for all you snow-lovers out there; a holiday reading list featuring books about Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, and the winter solstice; as well as a list of holiday and seasonal books in various global languages

Here’s to a festive holiday season!
