Resilience
Even for the self-aware and emotionally skillful, struggles can take us by surprise. Learning healthy ways to move through adversity can help us cope better and recover more quickly, or at least head in that direction.
Here are some practices which can help you confront emotional pain more skillfully:
Change the narrative. Expressive writing (journaling) may help you become more engaged in life.
Face your fears. Although the fear may never be fully extinguished, you will likely have greater courage to confront it.
Practice self-compassion. Be mindful. Remember you are not alone and be kind to yourself.
Meditate. Painful thoughts are usually about the past or the future. When we pause and bring our attention to the present, we often find that things are okay.
Cultivate forgiveness. By clearly acknowledging what happened, including how it feels and how it is affecting your life right now, you can make a commitment to forgive. This leads to letting go of resentment and ill will for your own sake.
