Chevy Choice Hours

Chevy Chase Choice Hours gives you more access to the library through fully self-service open hours! Patrons who register for Chevy Chase Choice Hours are able to make full use of the self-service offerings, including checking out materials, accessing library computers, printing, WiFi, and access to the beautiful Chevy Chase Library space to work, study, read, and relax. Chevy Chase Choice Hours are made possible by controlled access to the library for registered card holders, security cameras, timed locks and speakers for announcements.  

In the past, Chevy Chase Library was open only eleven hours per week, and the local community has always wanted to access their library more. So, the Glendale Library, Arts & Culture team jumped at the opportunity to pilot additional self-service hours by participating in a grant funded by the State of California and administered by the California State Library and in partnership with Bibliotheca, LLC. 

Chevy Chase Hours

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday:

  • Choice Hours* : 9am-7pm

Wednesday:

  • Choice Hours* : 9am-2pm

  • Staffed hours: 2pm-8pm

Saturday:

  • Staffed hours: 12pm-5pm

SERVICES

Approved Chevy Chase Choice Hours patrons will be able to enjoy work, study, and reading space in the beautiful Chevy Chase Library and take advantage of:

  • Fast WiFi and wireless printing to use with your own device, along with access to library computers 

  • Self-Checkout Stations enabling checkout of library materials and account management 

  • Library Catalog Stations to use for account management, renewals, searching, and discovery of Library materials and online resources 

  • Coming soon! A reservable meeting room that seats 4 people, a vending machine for coffee and other beverages 

  • Staff assistance is limited to our open hours. Some staff assistance may be limited during Choice Hours, to learn more about staff availability, please call 818-548-4028

    The Chevy Chase Library will be staffed Wednesdays 2 - 8pm and Saturdays 12 - 5pm.

How to register for Chevy Chase Choice Hours 

  • Verify that you have an active Glendale Library Arts & Culture account in good standing without missing item charges, and know your PIN (or reset your PIN). 

  • Complete an in-person orientation with Library staff, which includes review of the policies and procedures, and an overview of building access and services, and sign the use agreement and liability agreement.   

RULES

Overview of Chevy Chase Choice Hours Rules

  • This service is self-directed and in-person library staff assistance will not be available. Emergencies may occur and an emergency phone line to dial 911 for help is always available. Calling 911 will result in faster help than going next door to the fire department. 

  • Chevy Chase Choice Hours card holders, and minors they are responsible for, are the only people allowed in the building during unstaffed Chevy Chase Choice Hours. 

  • Chevy Chase Choice Hours cardholders must not allow other unregistered customers into the building when entering and exiting.  Chevy Chase Choice Hours cardholders must use their own card to access the building.  

  • Chevy Chase Choice Hours cardholders adhere to all library policies while using the library during Self-Service Hours, including but not limited to Interior Rules of Behavior, Exterior Rules of Behavior, and Library Internet Policy  

  • Cardholders must notify Library staff immediately when witnessing anyone violating the Use Agreement while using Chevy Chase Choice Hours by calling (818)548-2048. 

  • Security cameras monitor and record the use of the library when staff are not present during Chevy Chase Choice Hours. 

  • Chevy Chase Choice Hours cardholders must comply with all announcements made while visiting. 

  • Chevy Chase Choice Hours cardholders must keep the contact information in their library account (phone, email, etc.) up to date.
