The First-Ever Book Festival is Coming to Glendale Central Library
The City of Glendale’s Library, Arts & Culture Department is hosting a book festival at the Glendale Central Library on Saturday, February 25 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Free Admission. All ages. The book festival is the first of its kind: a day to celebrate diversity in reading.
Be the Change Book Festival is a celebratory event in conjunction with the Be the Change Series, the library’s promise to build collective understanding of systemic racism, elevate the voices and stories of Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC), and inspire our community to be the change through lectures, exhibits, and programming.
The book festival will feature local book shops including Once Upon a Time Bookstore in Montrose, CA, community cornerstones like Tia Chucha’s Centro Cultural in Sylmar, CA, and the Indie Author Project. Festival goers may pick up free books that day from the Big Free Library (nonfiction, fiction, and YA books) located on the main Library floor and learn the process of bookmaking with L.A. artist Debra Disman (Diman’s artwork is currently on view at ReflectSpace Gallery). To register for the bookmarking workshop visit glendaleca.libnet.info/events.
No book festival would be complete without an author and book signing lineup. Featured authors include:
Vahe Berberian
Joe Cepeda
Naz Kutub
Andrea J. Loney
Ajuan Mance
Luis J. Rodriguez
Benson Shum
And special guest: John Cho
All authors and illustrators participating in the book festival offer unique narratives that for many decades have been shunned by mainstream book publishers, and now thanks to a new generation of writers and readers demanding greater equity in the world of book publication, readers are experiencing a renaissance of new stories never told and readily available to Glendale readers.
Glendale Library, Arts & Culture is committed to empowering a new generation of BIPOC writers and readers at its locations and library programming. To learn more about the Glendale Libraries commitment to diverse reading, please visit www.eglendalelac.org/bethechange .
