Last week, on June 22, 2021, Harper Collins published Becoming Trader Joe: How I Did Business My Way and Still Beat the Big Guys, by Trader Joe’s founder Joe Coulombe and editor Patty Civalleri. In a weekend review, Los Angeles Times Book Critic and Culture Columnist Mary McNamara said of the book, “it is just as much fun as you’d expect.”

Today there are over 530 Trader Joe’s stores across the United States, but the very first store opened in neighboring Pasadena in 1967. Unfortunately, we lost Joe in early 2020, but his legend lives on in this book. Trader Joe’s is a Southern California institution. The book is part memoir, part leadership volume, and it dispenses sage entrepreneurial advice.
