November is Picture Book Month and Glendale Library, Arts & Culture will be celebrating with all kinds of exciting activities and events. We hope you’ll join us for the picture book fun all month long.

Picture Book Challenge: Sign up for the online Picture Book Challenge on Beanstack, where you can earn badges for completing an assortment of activities in several categories throughout the month, in addition to meeting a very achievable reading goal. The activities are things that you can easily do at home, such as have a singalong with your family or draw along to a story as you listen. Register here today!

Animals in Picture Books: Join us for a special virtual event this Saturday, November 7 at 2:00 pm.

Join us as the Library presents an online visit with a naturalist from the Environmental Nature Center, who will read some favorite animal picture books, and show us the real-life animals featured in the stories. There will be an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about wildlife in California. Please register for the event here.

Stories and Crafts Program: Every Monday this month, each of the children’s librarians will be sharing a different picture book and featuring a simple craft project to go along with the story. You can make a star wand, a pirate hat, your own bubble solution, learn to finger knit—and so much more!

Curated Book Lists by Children’s Librarians

Looking for even more picture books to read this month? Check out the themed lists of recommended picture books that our children’s librarians have specially curated to celebrate Picture Book Month. Items can be put on hold through the library catalog and picked up using curbside pickup, and some are available as ebooks as well. Picture books aren’t just for the youngest children. You’ll find books for kids of all ages, including fiction and nonfiction titles—there’s so much good literature to explore.

Looking to access Picture Books virtually? Check out TumbleBooks for virtual read-along picture books. Our other digital platforms have a wealth of picture books to pore over as well. Check out CloudLibrary, Freading, and Hoopla for many more fun picture book reads.

Be sure to tune in to our live storytimes, offered each Thursday morning at 10:30 am through December 17. There are also a wealth of standalone stories and booktalks from our children’s librarians, in addition to weekly global-language storytimes in Spanish and Armenian to enjoy online. And for even more resources on children’s programming and materials please check out our Kids page for reading programs, early literacy at home, additional reading lists, and so much more.
