Everything You Need to Know about Getting the COVID-19 Vaccine

As COVID-19 vaccines continue to roll out in Los Angeles County, there is a lot of important information to know. COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective. Clinical trials were performed and the vaccines all passed strict testing guidelines. Millions of people have already received the vaccine. The vaccine is free to receive regardless of insurance or immigration status. Please read below to learn more about the COVID-19 vaccine.

How do you know if you are eligible to receive your vaccine? 

As of Monday, March 15, individuals ages 16-64 who are high-risk or have underlying conditions will be eligible to receive the vaccine. Those already eligible for the vaccine include individuals ages 65 and above, healthcare workers, and those in education and childcare, emergency services and food and agriculture. How many vaccines are there? 

There are currently three approved vaccines: Pzifer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson. Pzifer and Moderna each require two shots and the Johnson & Johnson vaccine requires one shot. Whichever vaccine you receive, it takes two weeks after the final dose to be fully vaccinated. Once you receive your vaccine it is still important to continue to wear a mask in public and social distance. 

When will you be eligible for the vaccine? 

While waiting to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, it is important to continue to practice mask wearing and social distancing. Information in Los Angeles County will be shared as it is updated. For up-to-date information, you can also sign up for a vaccine newsletter on their website.
