Making Back-to-school Better

Back-to-school season is already upon us, even though it looks much different this year. Whether you have children who will be learning remotely, homeschooling, or attending classes in person, Glendale Library, Arts & Culture is offering many digital resources that can help students and their families navigate this new normal and succeed in the face of these unprecedented educational challenges.

Homework Help Now is a comprehensive educational platform from Brainfuse, which offers live online homework help and writing assistance from expert tutors, as well as practice tests, flashcards, and much more, all free to library users. Whether your child is a kindergartener who needs reading help or a high school senior who needs extra assistance in chemistry or history, they can receive live help from virtual tutors between 1:00pm-10:00pm every day of the week. There are also resources for ELL students, college students (and those looking for help getting into college), and adult learners who want guidance achieving their high school equivalency.

Tumble Math helps you do the math. This platform boasts a sizable collection of math eBooks for primary school readers, complete with animation and narration. These are accompanied by supplementary materials such as lesson plans and quizzes. They cover a wide range of mathematical topics that support common core standards, from counting and adding to fractions and probability.

ABC Mouse makes learning fun by delivering educational games, books, puzzles, and songs to your youngest learners, children ages 2-8. Kids will enjoy creating an avatar that earns virtual in-platform prizes for playing fun games and reading books--they might not even realize they are simultaneously acquiring fundamental skills and mastering important concepts to help them succeed in school.

Beginning this September, our children’s librarians will be presenting live storytime programming in addition to the current schedule of virtual children’s programs. This way you can experience our dynamic storytimes in real time, as children’s librarians offer content to help your child develop important early literacy skills, including print awareness, letter knowledge, narrative skills, vocabulary, phonological awareness, and print motivation, through stories, songs, fingerplays, and other interactive fun.

Finally, to supplement the wealth of virtual resources, services, and eMaterials, Glendale Library, Arts, & Culture is also offering contactless curbside service for you to pick up holds on physical items. In addition to our broad collection of children’s materials, make sure to search our new selection of Vox Books, a fun and engaging way for children to read along with a picture book to develop literacy and language skills. Reserve a few to try out today.

No matter what your circumstances or needs may be for the coming school year, Glendale Library, Arts, & Culture is dedicated to offering something for everyone in order to help every child not just to persevere, but to thrive.
