Brand Music Series | ZePure Trio 

ZePure Trio consists of Chika Inoue on saxophone, Maksim Velichkin on cello and Ovanes Arakelyan on piano. In a program titled Armenian Rhapsody, the trio will be performing music by Komitas, Babajanian, Khachaturian, Arutiunian, Baghdassaryan, Sayat Nova, Khachatur Avetisyan, Stepan Davtyan, Edgar Hovhanisyan and arrangements of several anonymous folk songs. 

Admission is free and seating is limited.

THE CRAFT OF AURORA’S SUNRISE WITH INNA SAHAKYAN 

APRIL 19, 7:00 PM , GLENDALE CENTRAL LIBRARY AUDITORIUM 

Please join the Armenian Film Society for a conversation with Director Inna Sahakyan on the craft of Aurora's Sunrise, Armenia's submission to the 2023 Academy Awards. This event is sponsored by the Armenian Film Society, and will take place in the Glendale Central Library Auditorium. 

Free admission. RSVPs required. Seating is first come, first served. 

This event is presented during the City of Glendale's Week of Remembrance for the Armenian Genocide and as part of the 100 Years of Armenian Cinema celebration. The Armenian State Committee of Cinema was established by government decree on April 16, 1923. 

Aurora's Sunrise is an animated documentary film directed by Inna Sahakyan. The film is based on the life of Aurora Mardiganian, an Armenian Genocide survivor who, after her escape, became an actress in the United States after starring in the silent film Auction of Souls (Ravished Armenia). The event will include clips and stills from the film, and an in-depth discussion about the craft of making the film. 

About Armenian Film Society 

Armenian Film Society is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to shining a spotlight on Armenian films and filmmakers. Founded in 2015 by husband and wife Armen and Mary Karaoghlanian, Armenian Film Society has held events around the world with guests such as Atom Eogyan, Mardik Martin, Sev Ohanian, and more.

ARMENIAN DANCE & MUSIC HERITAGE

Dance & Sing with Lernazang Ensemble, including master folk singer Hasmik Harutunyan, as they present a suite of songs and dances that uphold the memory of the lost homeland of Western Armenia, the land that their ancestors were forcefully exiled from. Lernazang will share the origins of these songs and dances, and their incredible cultural significance for us today.

APRIL 15 ACTIVITIES

  • Glendale Library, Arts & Culture and Glendale Community College commemorate Armenian History Month

    We are excited to help facilitate the creation of a living history for the Armenian community in Glendale. As a part of the living history, we are requesting public submissions of writing or artwork for a “Wall of Remembrance and Reflection” to be hosted physically at Glendale Community College and at the Central Library branch of Glendale Library, Arts & Culture.

    SUBMISSIONS CAN BE DROPPED OFF AT ANY GLENDALE BRANCH LIBRARY

    Please include:

    An anecdote about your family

    A story, object, memory, etc. that has significant importance to you

    Any stories about the Armenian genocide (family stories or historical stories)

    Story of how your family migrated to the United States

    Or anything you would like to share about your family and family history

    RULES:

    --The size of your submission can be up to 17” x 22” but no larger (it can be smaller)

    --Please use only one side of the paper you’re submitting (any color)

    --You may include your first name, if you wish or you may submit anonymously

    --Submissions are due by Wednesday, April 12th.

    --They can be handwritten or typed

    --They can be decorated with art, if you wish

    By submitting material for this project, you acknowledge that you understand it will become part of a public display at Glendale Community College and the Glendale Library, Arts & Culture.

 
  • Experience art & reflect on Armenian History with photos and visual representations of precious family heirlooms from GCC students, and the patrons of Glendale Library, Arts & Culture.  

    The display of artwork will be in the Auditorium, along the wall as you enter.  

 
  • Make a pin-back button with your choice of several Armenian motifs! Available from 10:30 AM – 4:00 PM in the second-floor Exhibitor area.

  • The American Armenian Artists Association is a newly formed California nonprofit organization that works to gather all the Armenian artists who reside in southern California under one roof to promote the Armenian culture, art, and heritage, working with art, paintings, and music which are the universal languages that everyone can understand without interpretation. The AAAA is an independent nonprofit that works closely with the Glendale Chapter of the Armenian Cultural Foundation.

 
  • Armenian Relief Society (ARS) is an independent, non-governmental, and non-sectarian organization that serves the humanitarian needs of the Armenian people and seeks to preserve the cultural identity of the Armenian nation. It mobilizes communities to advance the goals of all sectors of humanity.

  • Since 1998, GALAS has been the leading voice in advancing equality for LGBTQ+ Armenians worldwide. GALAS was formed in Los Angeles by a group of LGBTQ+ Armenians who were looking for friendship, support, and a sense of belonging within the community.

  • The Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) is the world’s largest non-profit organization devoted to upholding the Armenian heritage through educational, cultural and humanitarian programs.

  • The Armenian Bar Association, formed in 1989, the Armenian Bar Association provides an arena for lawyers of Armenian heritage to come together socially and professionally and to address the legal concerns of the Armenian community.
