National Rental Websites

This collection of apartment rental sites was created based on recommendations from local social service agencies.  All are free to use and do not collect information for basic searches.

Allows for filtering for miles from desired zip code, price, number of bedrooms, number of bathrooms, square footage, availability, housing type, laundry, parking and other amenities.  Landlords can submit listings for free and may include properties not listed on other sites. View Craigslist’s recommendations on how to avoid scams.

Allows for filtering for area, max price, number of bedrooms, pets and amenities. Vetted properties.

Allows for filtering for price, number of bedrooms, pets, rental type, closeness to transit services, and other amenities.  Each search provides more information about the neighborhood including street view, schools, and crime rates.

Rental Rights Program

Glendale’s “Rental Rights Program” page contains links to lots of information of interest to Glendale residents.

Rental Help: California

The HUD “Rental Help: California” page has information on state and federal rental assistance programs, as well as many other low-cost housing options.

Tenants Together

Tenants Together” is a non-profit organization recommended by the State Attorney General.

California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, the state agency charged with enforcing California’s civil rights laws, including cases of housing discrimination.

CA COVID‐19 Rent Relief Now Available

Relief is available NOW for eligible households who need financial assistance for unpaid rent and utilities.

Eligible households:

  • Have experienced financial hardship because of COVID‐19

  • Have past due rent or utility bills

  • Have a household income under 80% of the area median income

 Help is available for:

  • Rent Debt

  • Future Rent

  • Utility Debt

  • Future Utility Bills

 How does it work?

 If you are a landlord, you can apply directly to be reimbursed for 80% of your eligible renters’ unpaid rent from April 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021, if you agree to waive the remaining 20%.

 If you are a renter, you can apply directly to receive 25% of your unpaid rent from April 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021, even if your landlord doesn’t participate. You can also receive assistance for future rent equal to 25% of your monthly rent. Renters can also get 100% of past due utility payments from April 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021, as well as up to 12 months of future utility bills.

The Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles has grown to become one of the nation’s largest and leading public housing authorities, providing the largest supply of quality affordable housing to residents of the City of Los Angeles.

California Housing Finance Agency (CalHFA) has supported the needs of renters and homebuyers by providing financing and programs so more low to moderate income Californians have a place to call home. Visit their “Homebuyers” page.

Utility Assistance

 
Glendale Care

The Glendale Care Program offers a $15.00 monthly discount to GWP electric customers who meet low-income guidelines. Proof of income will need to be submitted for the discount to be approved.

Utility Users Tax Exemption

Utility Users Tax Exemption - Households with at least one member that is 62 years or older and income below $13,950, or low-income households with a disabled person age 55 or older may be eligible for this exemption.

Helping Hand

The Helping Hand Program offers emergency assistance to Glendale residents of up to $150.00 per account. To qualify, customers must meet certain qualifications including loss of job or reduction in work hours, unexpected medical expenses, or loss of a family member.

Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program

Low Income Home Energy Assistance Prgram (LIHEAP) is a federally funded program that provides assistance with past due utility bills. In response to the pandemic, additional funds have been allocated to help low-income households afford their energy costs and avoid making cutbacks on other household essentials. Catholic Charities

Catholic Charities provides assistance with utility bills and other basic needs such as rental assistance, prescriptions, and clothing. In response to the CVOID-19 pandemic they are also offering assistance for those suffering from job loss or pay reduction. Call (213) 318-5707 for more information.

Salvation Army

The Salvation Army provides bill assistance of up to $50.00 per household. The Salvation Army also provides job training skills, day care programs, and other services. Customers may contact the Salvation Army directly for utility bill assistance - (818)246-5586.
