Spotlight on glendaleOUT
On Tuesday June 28, 2022, members and allies of the LGBTQIA+ community gathered at Dave’s on Broadway in Glendale, California to commemorate the 53-year anniversary of the Stonewall uprising. The event was organized by glendaleOUT, a local grass-roots organization dedicated to amplifying the presence of the queer narrative in Glendale.
Local Arts Spotlight: the Glendale Room
While the global pandemic seemed to close many beloved Los Angeles spots, in October of 2021, Glendale gained a dark, cozy little spot on Artsakh Ave, between Broadway and Wilson Ave, two blocks from Glendale Central Public Library. With a bright pink neon sign and the walls lined with books, the Glendale Room has been offering superb comedy shows which includes stand-up, improv, sketch along with storytelling shows and classes for the curious. The Glendale Room is led by Sean Casey, a Chicago-native who, along with some friends, opened up the Westside Comedy Theater in Santa Monica in 2008.
Brand Associates Dance Series 2022
This series, curated by acclaimed choreographer, teacher and producer Jamie Nichols, presents top dance companies from Southern California performing site-specific work in non-traditional performance spaces around Brand Library. This year performances will be live and in person. The Dance Series includes an interactive Sunday workshop with an opportunity to meet the artists.
Local Art Roundup: April - June
After far too long, the in-person arts have returned! There are plenty of free events courtesy of Glendale’s Arts & Culture Commission to help celebrate the visual and performing arts.
Local Arts Spotlight: Junior High
Junior High is a non-profit 501(c)3 community arts space prioritizing the safety and expression of female, queer, nonbinary, and artists of color. Their physical space, publication, podcast, and other ventures function on principles of radical empathy, equity, and mutual aid.
Staff Reviews: Bing Crosby Double Feature
As the holiday season comes to a close, it’d like to present a superb Christmas double featuring singer & actor Bing Crosby, both with music from composer Irving Berlin, and the song “White Christmas”: 1942’s Holiday Inn (co-starring Fred Astaire and Marjorie Reynolds) and 1954’s White Christmas with Rosemary Clooney, Danny Kaye and Vera-Ellen.

Songs and Sci-Fi: Music inspired by Ray Bradbury
Ray Bradbury is one of literature’s most loved kings, not only of authoring such classics at The Martian Chronicles, Fahrenheit 451 and a superb and lengthy collection of short stories, but also actively supporting arts advocacy. Bradbury championed the imagination and encouraged all young readers to do the same. Some of those avid readers turned their love of Bradbury’s work into the world of music.
